Interview with Mister Jamaica Charity 2018, Dowayne Powell


Tell us about yourself?

My name is Dowayne Powell; I am from the noble and tranquil community and parish of Bogue St. Elizabeth. Humble respectful and vivacious are just a few adjectives that can be used to describe me. I am a 24 years old young man who believes that a good education is the only way forward and I am guided by the philosophy that states: “With God in the midst I can conquer any obstacle that Standeth in my way.”

Tell us about the competition you will be entering this month?

The United Nations Pageant is a charity-based pageant. “The pageant’s principal objective is to Inspire, educated and to motivate. It also is the helps to promote, identify and showcase the world’s best charity cause ambassadors; those who have the skills, talents and personalities best suited to promote their respective countries in furtherance of charitable events.

Do you believe Male pageants are relevant?

Yes I believe it is relevant because it gives males a chance to identify and showcase their skills, talents and personalities best suited to promoted a cause and work hard in order to achieve a specific objective.

How is your preparation going for the final?

Preparation for the finals takes a lot of charity work and training and so far it has been awesome getting to meet persons from different background also with the amount of charity that has been doing it gives me confidence to go all out to represent my country and bring home the title.

Tell us about your charity platform?

I entered the Charity Pageants because not only did I want to be a role model to young people but also to help them to believe in themselves that they can achieve success regardless of their origin and background .During my reign I was able to work with different organizations such as : The Davina Foundation and Shak’s Hope Foundation and several other entities, I even Painted four schools , I further used my platform to help the less fortunate and also to inspire a lifelong learning, advance Knowledge, and strengthen my community. I was able to impact the lives of the youths not only in my community but also the country on a whole by sharing my life experiences and mentoring young people who are having difficulties in their school work to become a better version of themselves not just to live up to people’s expectations but to exceed standards that they have set for themselves to continue to make those around them proud.

What is your message to men in Jamaica?

To be confident in themselves , to aim for something positive in life to be a winner and not a quitter alsoto never give up even when the odds are up against them but to work hard so that they can improve their lives to be positive Role model within and without their surroundings.

What is your message for the young man sitting on the street corner?

Firstly I would intervene to know what contribute to them being on the street then I could share experiences and give them a sense of direction as how to better themselves , how to be goal oriented and insights of how they can change their situation.

What would readers be surprise to learn about you?

My leadership qualities, my humility, my passion for success and lastly the impact I have on young people being able to share my life experience with them and to help them to become a better version of themselves to believe that they can be anything that they want to be as long as they believe in themselves.

Why should people take you seriously?

I keep my word, and I am truthful and genuine, I stand for success and I am relatable.

What is your favorite color?

My favorite color is White or Blue

What do you do for fun?

I like shopping, exercising, watching movies and playing football.

What country would you like to visit?

America, France, England and Canada

What is your favorite food?

Rice and Peas with Fry Chicken

What kind of music do you like?

Gospel, R&B, Reggae and Country.

Three things you must have with you?

Positive attitude and behavior, respect and a strong: physical, mental and spiritual health.
