British Actor Alan Rickman dies of cancer at age 69


Alan Rickman, best known for his roles in Harry Potter, Die Hard and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, has died at the age of 69.

His death was confirmed on Thursday by his family who said that he died “surrounded by family and friends”. Rickman had been suffering from cancer.

The actor's career spanned decades and was filled with parts and performances that will continue to entertain generations of fans long after his passing.

He became a household name playing Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films.

His film "Eye in the Sky," about drone warfare in Kenya, is set to be release in March. He also did voice work for the upcoming "Alice Through the Looking Glass."

Rickman is survived by his wife Rima Horton, whom he married secretly last year after meeting 50 years ago.

After living together since 1977, the couple chose to finally marry in New York in April 2015.
