Interview: Singer Zoo Rass Talks About His Latest EP “Attraction”

American based dancehall star Zoo Rass will be releasing his second EP, “Attraction”, on May 4th

Zoo Rass is a refreshing and promising new voice that will capture your ears and your heart.

Get the scoop on the EP from Zoo Rass himself from our Q&A below.

What was the inspiration behind your forthcoming EP “Attraction”?

At first we were just going with the flow and making music. I was inspired to just show my growth as an artist with a fresh project. My assistant actually helped me come up with the name Attraction for the project. At first we had no name, just the music. After listening to it a few times we came up with the name Attraction which I think fits the project perfectly. Each song describes different traits, characteristics, feelings, and actions when I find myself attracted to a female.

How excited are you to be releasing your EP?

Very excited about this release. I think I’m more excited about this project than my first EP (The Rasta Prince) or any other project. My first project was just a collection of my seven best songs at the time. We started this project from SCRATCH! All new songs. The first EP only had 2 unreleased songs oppose to this one in which all five tracks are unreleased. For the fans that has been following me they will really hear how I have grown as an artist. I think I found my sound while working on this project. My first EP peaked at #54 on the I-Tunes charts in North America among reggae releases when it dropped in 2015. Fast forward three later where are in a different timing with all these different streaming services so I’m very eager to see people’s reaction and to see if I can hit the charts once again.

What’s your first single on your EP?

The first single is entitled “Da Da Doom Doom.”

Why did you decide to release it as your first single?

“Da Da Doom Doom” is a very catchy song and will make females want to dance. My team and I believed by releasing this first it will catch the ears of many listeners and make them want to tune in to the project.

How do you think it (the single) prepares people for the rest of your EP?

I think it will prepare them, but surprise them at the same time. I think the people are probably expecting more of a hardcore dancehall project but it’s not. I mix in a lot different genres: Dancehall of course, then you got the Hip Hop, Soca, little bit of R&B, little bit of EDM/Afro Beat but still manage to be me.

What’s your process for songwriting?

My song writing process might take longer than others. I usually link up with my producer listen to different beats and start free-styling over a beat to get different ideas. After getting a few ideas we go with this best one and start working on the song. We always think “will this catch people attention” or “say this part of the verse like this because it will be catchier” etc.

How long did it take to get these tracks right?

Some of the songs off the project we had written or started working on it for a little over a year but we fully started working on the project back in January. It took us about 4 months to fully make sure everything for the tracks was perfect, from the recordings to the features to the mixing and mastering.

What artists have continued to inspire you and your music?

Konshens, Buju Banton, Ding Dong, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Jay-Z, Drake……. I can go on and on.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be? Why?

Definitely will be Konshens just for the simple fact that he’s my favorite artist and I look up to him. I will also love to collab with Beenie Man or Sean Paul. Those are two legends in the game who have paved the way for us dancehall artists I have the upmost respect for them both and love the energy that they bring.

At the end of the day, what do you hope your fans take away from your music?

I overall just hope fans can listen to my music and have fun. Sometimes when I’m in the worst mood music can change it. If I can see the fans singing my song or even dancing and partying to it I’ll be happy.

When will your EP be released?

The EP is set for release May 4th 2018.

Where will be available?

The EP will be available in every digital distribution stores and streaming services. This includes I-Tunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal etc. I’m giving everybody a chance to listen to the EP, so this means even if you don’t have one of these streaming services or enough money to purchase the EP it will be streaming for free on my website ZooRassOnline.com

Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about yourself or your music?
