Chef Jason Howard has been busy publishing pictures of his work to an audience of 85,000 followers online. With his Instagram account being described as an online gallery of culinary mastery and food artistry. His plating skills caught the amazement of the industry and many fellow chefs alike, which eventually landed him a spot on MasterChefs: The Professionals in 2015. Finishing up a quarter-finalist, with all three judges highly impressed by the standard of his food and presentation. This he will be involved in Barbados 50th celebrations events in the UK and has been nominated for Ethnic Chef Of The Year Award. In addition Chef Jason Howard finished a social media #ILoveCaribbean food initiative with the Caribbean Tourism Organism earlier in March. Chef Jason Howard is currently a Chef consultant specialising menu design, food styling, plating and food presentation for restaurants and event companies. Aside from this he's involved in mentoring other chefs and set up the Caribbean Culinary Collective, a showcase of talented chef's in or from the Caribbean putting flavour, skill and taste from the islands on the international map. Although trained and experienced in classic and modern French techniques, Howard's passion lies in Modern caribbean cuisine reflecting his roots, as he hails from the same country as Rihanna, Barbados. Many of his dishes and plates reflect the vibrant sunshine and tropical colours that really bring a real contrast and visual pop in images, especially in his salads. Many of the photographs are shot on a mobile phone, mostly in natural light from several angles and then one or two are selected to be uploaded, such as his squid ink and pickled octopus dishes.

Incarcerated Grammy-winning reggae singer, Buju Banton has penned an open letter to his fans, warning them of society’s ills while taking contemporary music to task, claiming it lacks substance. Currently in U.S. federal prison serving a 10-year sentence on drug charges stemming from a 2009 arrest in Florida, the 43-year-old reggae star took to Boomshots, the popular column in VIBE Magazine, to voice his concerns about the state of the music and how progress has stalled during to what he described as the lack of morality and destruction taking place in society today. “Tell my fans do not be distracted by all the things that are taking place around them because it is designed to throw them off kilter, to make moral decadence even more widespread than it already is, and plunge people into a state of darkness,”Buju said. “They’re trying to reverse the progress that we have made over the years through the music. And now the music is meaningless. It doesn’t stimulate, it doesn’t educate, it doesn’t reinvigorate. All it does is get you angry because it’s filled with nothing but narcissists exalting themselves over the earthly possessions that they have managed to get. They don’t even have anything—it’s crumbs.” “And therefore, the music is suffering. The people are suffering. Sadness and gloom is prevailing. It’s widespread. But be patient. Because suffering may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Buju is nearing the end of his sentence, which is scheduled for December 2018. Iconic reggae singer Jimmy Riley lost his life today after a long illness after a long battle with cancer while undergoing treatment in United States. He was 61. Jimmy is the father of reggae singer Tarrus Riley who have both performed together several times, headlining a number of festivals including the Ocho Rios Seafood Festival in 2007. Our condolences goes out to the family of Jimmy Riley.

Shawntay Henry, Miss New York was crowned Miss Caribbean United States 2016 on Saturday night (Mar 19th) at Performing Arts Center in New York As the title holder Henry will represent the United States at Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus in St.Martin and Miss Jaycees in Antigua. She also won "Best Talent" for the competition. First runners-up went to Miss Connecticut Tonille Watkis, while Raynel Carroll, Miss Antigua and Barbuda was second runners-up and the "Top Model" award. Rounding off the top five was Isabela Sylvester, Miss U.S Virgin Islands, who was fourth along with winning the Miss People’s Choice award. Fifth place went to Rachelle Legrand, Miss New Jersey. Destiny Wagner, who represented Belize was awarded Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality. The Miss Caribbean United States Pageant is the premier pageant for young ladies from the Caribbean, Central and South America living in the United States, or born in the United States of Caribbean, Central or South American descent.
