- Mariah Carey to Headline Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival 2015
International Superstar Mariah Carey will be the headline act for the 19th annual Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival set for January 29 - 31, 2015 at the Trelawny Stadium, Falmouth, Jamaica. This will be the first time the singer will be performing in the Caribbean Welcoming Mariah Carey to Jamaica’s shores is truly exciting and we are extremely pleased to announce this iconic star as our headline act for 2015, says Festival Producer Walter Elmore. Her agreeing to perform on our stage is a testament to the quality of our production, Elmore added. We are the only Festival in the Western Hemisphere to present Mariah Carey since her last tour in 2006. In a statement released Thursday, Carey expressed excitement about making her debut in Jamaica at the festival. "I'm thrilled to be performing in Jamaica for the first time ever," she said. She has received multiple GRAMMY® Awards, 21 American Music Awards, Billboards Artist of the Decade Award, the World Music Award 2014 Pop Icon and Artist with Most No. 1 Singles in America Awards, and BMI's Icon Award for her outstanding achievements in songwriting, among other notable accomplishments. Her set list for Jamaica is expected to be an exciting mix of her biggest fan-favorite pop and dance hits, R&B ballads, and hip-hop jams, along with popular selections from her critically acclaimed CD, Me. Trinbagonian gritty urban drama “God Loves The Fighter,” which is based on the city of Port-of-Spain and stars a 100% local cast including Penelope Spencer, Errol Sitahal and Albert Laveau, has been picked up by MovieTowne multiplex cinemas for local Theatrical Release. The film is being screened from December 3rd at MovieTowne (Port-of-Spain) with other local cinemas to be confirmed. The controversial first sneak peek teaser from the film was released earlier today - Monday 3rd November 2014. (Warning: Mature Language: View Teaser Now) Directed by Morvant, Laventille-born Damian Marcano, “God Loves The Fighter” stars up and coming Trinbagonian actors Jamie Lee Philips, Tishanna Williams, Lou Lyons and lead actor, Muhammad Muwakil.Muwakil plays "Charlie", a resident of East Port-of-Spain torn between the dangerous lifestyle of his neighbourhood childhood friend, and his own morality. The movie explores the underbelly of the urban struggle, hardly ever revealed to the outside world. Through a large cast of characters, the struggle is brought to light by way of multiple story-lines weaving through different lives and incidents all over the Port-of-Spain city capital. Film producers Blue Cinamon Pictures are planning to release the film with Caribbean, U.S. and UK dates to be announced. The film, which premiered at the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival in September 2013, was acknowledged for Best Overall Film (Special Mention) and won the Award for People's Choice - Feature Film, with an unprecedented eight sold out screenings in MovieTowne Port of Spain, Tobago and student screenings at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. "God Loves The Fighter" also won the Yellow Robin Award at the Curacao International Film Festival, Rotterdam and was named Best Narrative Feature Film (Honorable Mention) at the BET/HBO UrbanWorld Film Festival NY in September 2014. It opens theatrically on December 3rd in Trinidad and Tobago.
