  • Best Caribbean Wedding Destination Locations

THE BAHAMAS: This collection of 700 islands has something for every taste -- enjoy complete privacy by renting your own island, or host hundreds of your favorite people at a megaresort. Nassau and Paradise Island are two of the most visited and activity-packed destinations, while more remote areas such as Harbor Island and the Exumas tend to feel more laid-back. And since the Bahamas are just a 35-minute plane trip from Florida, it's an easy journey for guests. The high season lasts from mid-December to mid-April, while summers are sleepier. Although hurricanes are infrequent, they can occur, so it's best to avoid the area June through November. Need a great hotel for your big dayOne & Only Ocean Club, Paradise Island. This seaside resort's Versailles-inspired terraced garden is a unique ceremony location that accommodates up to 120 guests. Villas perched above the beach feature private infinity pools, and villa guests are offered iPods for use during their stay. Most rooms on the property have sweeping views of the ocean. GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS : If you're looking for fun and something a little different, Grand Cayman has plenty to offer. The East End is laid-back and timeless; the west side is where the action is. Here you'll find one of the Caribbean's finest strands: Seven Mile Beach, lined with hotels catering to beach brides and with ballrooms for those who don't want sand in their shoes. Hotels here are top-notch, with a mix of established brands (thinkWestin and The Ritz-Carlton), plus a great array of private condo-style resorts like The Reef and Caribbean Club. The vendors, from florists to photographers to caterers, are some of the best in the region. Create indelible memories with a group snorkel trip to Stingray City. ST. BARTS: Anyone who laments the demise of the so-called beautiful people hasn't been to St. Barts in high season recently. Fashionistas and their ilk adopted the French isle as their Caribbean St-Tropez long ago, and they keep coming back for more of its fine beaches, beautiful buildings and superb food — all of which add up to an ambience that says the great life. That life is lived in elaborate villas and small hotels with swank names like Eden Rock and Le Toiny, at trendy watering holes, and in the boutiques and byways of Gustavia, the picturesque capital. A long residency requirement for official weddings precludes legally getting married in St. Barts, but there's no shortage of stunning settings for a ceremonial vow exchange in the Caribbean's capital of chic. DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: The D.R. is huge and varied, but for the purposes of an affordable Caribbean wedding, most plane rides lead to Punta Cana and Cap Cana, on the east coast. There you'll find endless stretches of palm-lined beaches that host an array of all-inclusive resorts, each virtually a destination itself, thanks to multiple pools, bars, restaurants, entertainment venues and sports facilities. Different brands cater to every style and budget, sometimes within the same property; for instance, at the sweepingParadisus Palma Real, guests can either stay in the main hotel or upgrade to the Reserve next door, with luxe extras like private concierge service and Reserve-only restaurants. Best of all, these well-run complexes offer an array of wedding packages, planners and other onsite vendors to help you easily pull the whole thing off. JAMAICA: Jamaica is a great spot to have a non-traditional wedding. The locals are up for just about anything (within reason!). If you're going to have a Jamaica wedding, take advantage of the Jamaican experience. Whether it is a ceremony or an elaborate one, you will love the exotic settings that envision your perfect wedding. The ambiance is a blend of the splendor in natural and romantic surroundings which satisfies you with a true Jamaican experience. Start your lifetime memories in the ultimate location where Jamaica provide wedding renewals, receptions, cruise ship beach side, wedding packages and exclusive wedding planning services in a personal, beautiful setting that redefines what you both together. SAINT LUCIA: This Windward Island’s volcanic profile has been rising higher and higher in recent years, thanks to a deluge of new boutique hotels with a massive wow factor. Leading the way was Jade Mountain, a spectacular wing of the venerable Anse Chastanet, and neighboring Ladera, which just built an outdoor venue specifically for weddings. The southern Soufriere area is quieter and less developed. For more in the way of restaurants, nightlife and accommodations suitable for bigger parties, stay up north, where chic check-ins include three Sandals resorts and Cap Maison, seen on the finale of The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love. Saint Lucia is one of the Caribbean’s prettiest destinations, rent a car and make the most of it. Destination weddings take considerable planning and research, and the best properties & accommodations often book far in advance of the wedding date. The earlier you begin planning your wedding, the greater the likelihood you will be able to book the perfect property for you and your guests. Create an Amazon Wedding Registry

  • Makeup: Glitzy Gold Eye for the Summer

The value of gold is at a premium for nighttime. Here’s how to master the metallics that give lids a foiled effect for a gilded eye with a big beauty payoff. How to get the look: Start by giving your complexion an allover radiance with a few drops of Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primersmoothed over your face. This creates an instant boost on its own, or you can mix it right into your regular foundation. Give your cheeks a subtle flush of color with a light dusting of True Match Blush in Sweet Ginger—a color that won’t compete with the gorgeous, shimmery eye you’re about to create. To give eyes a deeply dimensional glow, the trick is to use complementary shades of gold. We love the luxe, velvety texture of Infallible® 24 HR Eye Shadow for its rich effects. Apply Eternal Sunshine to the entire lid from lash line to brow. Next, use the Bronzed Taupe color to add depth by applying it to the eye creases and outer corners of eyes. Now make the gilded look really pop by drawing a line along top lashes with Extra Intense™ Liquid Pencil Eyeliner in Black. Finally, pile on the mascara—black-as-night Voluminous® False Fiber Lashes™ provides dramatic contrast. Finish with a soft berry shade on your lips. Infallible® Le Rouge in Beyond Blushing lends just the right flush Makeup by tips by: L’Oreal Paris

  • Neha Dawar - Kathak Dancer, Fashion Designer, Image Consultant, Artist, Jewellery Designer...

Beauty and talent couple to describe Neha Dawar, Subdued by the uniqueness of indo-culture, Neha believes that it offers a, “unique approach to the development of Trinbagonian culture.” Her dedication to obtain knowledge of her art along with the inclusion of Trinbagonian culture facilitates experimentation with Kathak. Her fusion of both Kathak and local dance has broadened her scope, affording her the ability to im-provise and engage audiences. Neha credits her love for Contemporary Kathak and Kathak Dance to her guru who is based in India. While her journey did not begin with her India based dance guru, she has trained with a number of Trinidad and Tobago before beginning her journey. Currently pursuing her bachelor degree in Fashion Design at the Centre for Arts and Fashion Design at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), Neha plans to become involved in the creative industry as a career. Her aspirations are realistic and well thought out; “To develop an understanding of my genre of dance and display the poetry and the art it has to offer” is a top priority for Neha. Added to her list is, “To excel as a fashion designer while demonstrating that we are not only tailors and seamstresses but artists who sketch and apply aesthetics of natural beauty to clothing and fashion accessories.” Neha’s personal credo is guided by her Punjabi background which she lives by; ‘Nirbhau Nirvair’ - Without Fear and Without Hate which was taught by Sahib the guru of Sikhism. Her eyes are set on being extraordinary and a ruler in her fields just as one of her sources of inspiration Rani Lakshmi Bhai; a brave and patriotic female leader who battled and became known as the queen of Jhansi. Mungal Patasar’s life journey and his works with the fusion of indo-culture and the steelpan has also been imprinted in the mind of Neha, acting as a motivational nudge for her. Her sources of inspiration added with her Punjabi background, personal interests and Hindu teachings can be credited for what Neha describes as her most unique attribute, “Being myself and not trying to be someone I am not.” To date, Neha has performed at a number of venues in Trinidad and Tobago, namely, Diwali Nagar, University of Trinidad and Tobago, University of the West Indies, Naparima Bowl and Queen’s Hall. When asked to describe her style of dance, Neha uses the words, emotional, meditation and trance which are experienced by both spectators and her. In the future she hopes to travel across the globe sharing her messages through dance and her other talents. Neha is all about culture, art and fashion and refuses to limit herself; jewelry making, makeup artistry, drawing and painting are other talents she can boast of. Her involvement in charity is consistent, having worked with a number of organizations in Trinidad and Tobago. She loves classical Indian, Punjabi, Soca, Calypso, Rock and Reggae music. As Neha continues to chant “Om Namo Narayana” her challenges become scarce and she becomes one step closer to attaining an eternal and blissful life. Q&A WITH NEHA DAWAR You are multitalented; you are Dancer, Fashion Designer Student,Event/Image Consultant, Artist and Jewellery Designer. Give me 5 words that sum you up. Creative, energetic, ambitious, serene and dedicated. If you were to put your entire career in order of importance what will it be? Being an artist to me is the most important. When I say artist I am using it to for me as a performer and designer. Jewelry design is my hobby mostly but I am in love with creating unique pieces upon request hopefully later on I will be able to do it on a larger scale. I can say without any hesitation that performing is my passion. How do you balance all that you are doing? You seem very busy? Dedication and discipline; I believe that if you dedicate yourself and maintain a realistic routine not straying off course then balancing what you do becomes easy. At least that is what I do. What is your typical day like? I am usually up by 5am for the very latest once the usually after tending to my personal preparations I prepare a cup of coffee and skype with my dance teacher in India. Following that is a minimum 2 hours practice session and then I am off to school where I study Fashion Design (UTT). At present school is on break so I start making calls and then go straight to meeting with clients. I usually sketch new ideas, do research, prepare orders and squeeze in family time which is very important to me. When school isn’t closed I usually meet clients on my way from school and then head home to complete projects and assignments. My days are long and my nights are short mostly.. What is Kathak dancing and how when did you start doing this? Kathak is one of the unique artforms of the 6 major classical dance forms of India. I saw the legendary “Pt Briju Maharaj ji” on television performing his footwork, with one of India’s lead dance programs, at that time I was learning how to play the tabla and one day while walking down from tabla class, I passed a classroom, and saw beautiful intricate footwork, and I was overwhelmed. The next Saturday I was in that particular class learning the beautiful footwork I admired. The world “Kathak” itself explains what it is. Kathak came from the world “Katha” which means storytelling. Kathak is an artform itself which will take a lifetime to learn. Kathak demands that the dancer has a very high level of command over the music and rhythm within the music and a broad knowledge of Hindu and Muslim poetry as it’s all about telling a story. From this I have developed from my studies and training in Contemporary Kathak which I am mixing contemporary dance with Kathak which will be soon seen. The Fashion Industry is a competitive Industry what are some of the challenges you face? Since I am still a fashion student I may not be able to share a number of experiences but I can say that in the Fashion Industry there is many ups and down, but I believe in three words “Understand, Accept and Adjust.” As fashion students sometimes the level of critique we receive may be harsh at times. Sometimes I would have expected a favourable response based on the work that I produced but received the opposite instead. It is to first understand the situation, then accept what it is and make my adjustments by attempting to make it better. If there is a challenge, you must embrace it not run from it. Tell us about your Jewellery line? It is not a line so to say, my pieces are designed exclusively for clients upon request. I usually receive a request based on an occasion/event and I will design to suit. I love to work with precious stones as well as metal jewelry. Most of my jewelry is inspired by Middle Eastern culture. In the picture attached I used stones such as Amethyst, onyx, pearls, sea beads, amber, jade and others. What celebrity would you love to see in your designs? Kate Middleton, ever since she stepped out in that stunning Alexender McQueen wedding gown she was dubbed a woman of style who sets trends and I am aspiring to set trends with my designs. Top Career moments so far? Honestly, I am not there yet. Every experience thus far has been memorable. Favourite part of your Job? Meeting new people and being able to put a smile on their faces. What’s your five year plan? No one can tell what can happen in five years, only the creator knows but my focus is on development within my years as development is the key to success. I am however focusing on finishing my degree and would love to build my empire within the fashion industry and create an identifiable name for myself as a dancer.

  • The Nestled Talent from the Furthest Point of Trinidad—MACHEL SANDY

Machel Sandy a very vibrant and positive person took the opportunity to be interviewed and his excitement grew when I asked him the first question. How it all started? He responded without hesitation by proudly exclaiming his mother is his main influence. Machel as a young boy among a dominantly female home was eager to learn from his mother’s natural gift. He admired his mother’s craft as one of the best wedding seamstress in Guyagagri. His love for fashion budded when he took his mother scraps of cloth and created his own ideas of creation. Apart from his mother his sister was quite active in the fashion and pageant world (Miss Trinidad & Tobago 2000) who also is his role model. It was at that pageant Machel felt motivated after meeting Heater Jones & Peter Elias for the first time. Machel’s first design was constructed at age 13 for his cousin’s graduation. Thereafter he added his designs to his village Emancipation shows, Cari Vogue. It was not long after he became passionate about designing for pageants which out of four pageants he captured three best evening gowns. Machel got so excited talking about his journey he said the audience reaction to his pieces is what motivates him. At this time Cari Vogue showed a tremendous amount of interest in him and offered him the opportunity to go to London to train him. His options were thin he had no choice but to finish secondary school. One of his disadvantages was the stigma as a young male designer. It added some peer pressure but Machel boldly past that phase without being discouraged. His education is a priority he is presently finishing his Business degree at the University of the Southern Caribbean. In 2006 La Revier was the talk of the season; his anticipation was taking a very positive turn in his life. It was his first national showing of his work, at this point he was competing against top local designers. Social media became the new marketing tool for Machel which actually was like a re-birth to his vision. It was time to give a name to his brand. Fascinated with Japanese culture Masheru was an abstract combination of Machel and Japanese. Swimwear by: Machel Sandy Now working out of Sande Grande, he describes his designs as urban chic” cross between urban & couture.
