Nigerian music superstar Joeboy gets dark in the noir music video for his latest single, “Contour.” The clip, shot in Ghana by director Awudu “Babs Direction” Musa, finds the singer in character as a jilted lover driven to desperate measures after discovering his partner’s infidelity.
“Contour,” which was released to DSPs on Aug. 19, reunites Joeboy with Tempoe, the producer of his runaway hit “Sip (Alcohol)” as well as CKay’s “Love Nwantiti,” which featured Joeboy on its official remix. Prior to today’s official video drop, Joeboy also shared an animated visualizer and a “Vibes Video.”
Bursting on the scene in 2019 with afropop smashes “Baby” and “Beginning,” Joeboy built an image early in his career as a romantic, boy-next-door type. His latest releases, however, have seen the singer take an edgier turn, from the escapism of “Sip (Alcohol)” to the self-assured “Cubana.” Likewise, “Contour” is a nuanced portrait of a love gone wrong.
“This is a bigger, more confident, more mature, more daring version of Joeboy,” Joeboy says.
With over 1 billion streams of his music, Joeboy is one of today’s most successful African recording artists. “Contour” is set to appear on Joeboy’s upcoming sophomore album due out later this year from Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa.
