Summer is just around the corner, and if you're still undecided on where to go for your summer getaway, Google Flights can help. The search engine giant used its data to determine the most popular travel destinations for summer 2023, and the results may surprise you.
According to the data, London is the top-searched destination for summer 2023, followed by Cancun, Mexico; Paris; Orlando, Florida; Rome; and New York City. It seems that European cities are trending, with Rome, Barcelona, and Dublin also making the list. Tokyo is also a popular destination, following Japan's reopening last October.
For domestic destinations, Los Angeles, Seattle, Miami, Chicago, Boston, and San Francisco are the most-searched cities for summer vacationers. Solo travel is also becoming increasingly popular, with searches for "solo travel destinations" spiking by over 120 percent in the U.S. over the past year. The top solo travel destinations include Japan, New Orleans, Iceland, Mexico City, and Italy.
For couples, the most-searched romantic locations are Jamaica, Bora Bora, Turks and Caicos, the Maldives, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
It's not surprising that there's an all-time high for searches around passports, with the U.S. State Department currently processing 500,000 passports a week. If you're planning an international trip this summer, make sure to apply for your passport well in advance, as passport processing time is currently 10 to 13 weeks.
Whether you're planning a solo trip, a romantic getaway, or a family vacation, there's a destination out there that's perfect for you. With Google Flights' data and recommendations, you can easily find the hottest summer destinations and plan your dream vacation today.
