American Airlines Resumes Daily Miami–Haiti Flights
American Airlines has resumed flights to Haiti, restoring a daily nonstop connection between Miami and Cap-Haïtien and giving Haitian families and diaspora travelers another major airline option for reaching the country’s northern coast.
Flight AA2492 departed Miami on November 1, 2026, according to Le Nouvelliste. The departure turns the carrier’s previously announced return into an operating service, following the suspension of American’s Haiti flights in late 2024.
A direct connection to northern Haiti
American’s published schedule calls for daily service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Cap-Haïtien International Airport (CAP), operated with Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline announced the route in June, identifying northern Haiti as a destination it would reconnect with its Miami hub.
The distinction between the two Haitian gateways matters. This return serves Cap-Haïtien; it does not announce the restoration of American Airlines flights to Port-au-Prince. Travelers should check the airport code on their itinerary rather than treating all Haiti bookings as interchangeable.
Why the route matters to the diaspora
For Haitian communities in South Florida, the service adds a nonstop option for visits to relatives and other essential journeys. American also identified New York City and Orlando among the communities that could benefit from one-stop connections through Miami.
A restored route can make a practical difference beyond the aircraft itself. Families coordinating visits, businesses arranging travel and travelers connecting from other U.S. cities gain another itinerary to consider. Whether that translates into lower fares will depend on availability and competition; the launch alone does not establish that prices have fallen.
Local 10’s November 1 airport reporting captured the personal significance of the return, speaking with passengers waiting to board in Miami. Their accounts underline a central part of the story: for many travelers, the connection is about access to home and family.
What travelers should check before booking
Confirm that the ticket is for Cap-Haïtien (CAP), review the travel dates and connection times, and check the airline’s current baggage rules and fare conditions. Flight availability does not replace checking current destination guidance and planning ground transportation.
The resumption is a concrete step in restoring air access to northern Haiti. For the wider Caribbean diaspora, it is also a reminder of how direct routes and reliable connections shape the ability to maintain ties across borders.
