40th Annual IRAWMA Celebrates Iconic Figures in Reggae and World Music

The International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) celebrated its 40th anniversary on May 7, 2023, at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston. The event was filled with excitement and recognition of the most iconic figures in the reggae and world music industry.


The night was hosted by GT Taylor and Dahlia Harris, who led the audience through an unforgettable night of music and awards. The red carpet was hosted by D'Angel and Rohan Gunter, with various performers such as Spice, Andrew Tosh, Beenie Man, NORTHCOAST BOYZ, D'Yani, and Bongo Herman, entertaining the audience with their incredible performances.


The highlight of the night was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Awards to two legendary reggae and dancehall icons, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man. Bounty Killer was recognized as the Reggae/Dancehall Icon, while Beenie Man received the Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement for his outstanding contribution to the Jamaican music industry for over 40 years. Beenie Man was also awarded Best Caribbean Entertainer and Best Dancehall Stage Craft.


Spice was awarded the Global Dancehall Queen trophy, recognizing her as one of the most influential figures in the dancehall music scene. Sean Paul took home the Peter Tosh Award for Best Recording Artist of the Year, sponsored by VP Records. In addition, he was recognized as the Entertainer of the Year in the Emperor of Reggae and World Music Hon. Bob Marley Category.


A special posthumous award was presented to Peter Tosh, recognizing his efforts in fighting for the legalization of marijuana. The media award was presented to Mutabaruka and GT Taylor, acknowledging their significant contributions to the reggae and world music industry.


The night was filled with remarkable achievements and performances from various musicians, making it an unforgettable experience for all attendees. The IRAWMA has been an essential platform for recognizing the most influential figures in the reggae and world music industry, and this year's event was a testament to the organization's commitment to celebrating excellence in music.
